In a desert land he found him in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him;he guarded him as the apple of his eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young,that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft. Deuteronomy 32:10-11
What does it mean to have a wilderness experience? For the believer, a wilderness experience is a period of suffering, a tough time that overshadows our being. It can manifest in many ways: loss of a loved one, a serious illness, a job, the things in life we enjoyed are blocked and we can’t see the forest for the big ugly tree that is blocking our view.
Recently, even in the middle of being active in church, taking care of kids, and surrounded by those I do life with, I became “lost in the wilderness”. As a matter of fact, it lasted well over a few months and it frightened me. I did all the normal things a Christian would do…pray, read the bible, stayed close to the ones God placed in my life to help. Still, I wondered why God had forsaken me and why He did not answer my prayers. I felt lost and I thought it would last forever. I even toyed with the idea of abandoning everything I had ever known. Finally, I knew I needed to get help. Guess what happened once I got help?
God met me in my mess. He showed me the way out. Through His loving care, I saw the light again. He never left me in my suffering. He showed me it was not by my own strength but by His I can overcome the wildernesses in my life, and come out on the other side with the hope of glory at my side.
Today’s verse reminds us of this. He meets us where we are, broken and abandoned and alone. He picks us up and sets us back on the road to glory. In our weakness, He is our strength. Let the Lord guide you through the wilderness and bring you home.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
Prayer: Lord thank you for your steadfast care and mercy which brings us to a better faith when we trust in you in spite of our suffering. Help us see you even in those times. Help us shine again and show others Your way. In Jesus name Amen
