Hope

By Mary Stout

This I declare about the Lord : He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
Psalms 91:2 NLT

It’s been an unprecented time in the world the last few weeks with so much of our lives being disrupted. The Covid 19 virus has changed the way we live temporarily at least. No more play dates for kids, no church or social gatherings or sports. Distance learning has replaced school for now. We have all had to modify the way we work and play. It’s the unknown we fear and we are not sure how we will manage.

So much of the news these days is filled with doom and gloom. It’s hard to just stop watching as hour by hour the updates change. Anxiety hits us and puts us on edge.

For Jesus followers, it brings us to a quandary. So much of our journey centers on engaging socially in church, worshipping together, packing bags for Backpack Buddies, and sharing with others the Good News of the Lord. It feels just plain weird to rethink this, doesn’t it?

Today’s verse gives us hope in the midst of the chaos. It reminds us in spite of our circumstances, we can trust the Lord to be with us. He is our safety net. He is Emmanuel– God with us.

You can still tell others the Good news, whether it’s checking on a neighbour, offering to shop for the elderly, or taking a meal to a needy family.

Choosing each day to act and do what Jesus did, trusting in His steadfast grace, and shining His light in our corner of the world will keep you strong during this time.

Prayer: Father help us remember to show our world through our actions who Jesus is every day. Help us know greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. in Jesus name, Amen
